Urban Waste-Water Projects in the Municipality of Kichevo
The municipality of Kichevo comprises of the following settlements: Zajas, Oslomej, Kichevo, Drugovo, and Vraneshtica, with a population of 56,739 citizens. The sewerage network is old and ineffective and there is no waste-water treatment plant. Wastewater is discharged directly into the recipient, which is the Zajashka River, without performing any pre-treatment.
The Zajashka River flows into river Treska River, which is a major tributary of the Vardar River and is considered as a valuable water resource in the country.
The main counterparts to the EU projects are the Ministry of Environment and Physical Planning, the Municipality of Kichevo and the Public Communal Enterprise Komunalec. The cooperation between stakeholders is essential when it comes to providing relevant documentation and/or organizing meetings and site visits necessary for a smooth implementation of the projects.
Under IPA I: in April 2016, the construction of waste-water treatment plant (WWTP) for 32,000 people equivalent (PE) and the construction of the main collector with 4 km length in the Municipality of Kichevo have started. This contract is signed with WTE Wassertechnik GmbH and its value is approx. 6.9Million EURO. The supervision contract is signed with Rutex Ltd. The works proceed at lower pace than programmed but satisfactorily quality wise.
The overall expenditure under IPAI: WWTP Construction, Supervision and Kichevo II (study and tender preparation) amount to approx. 7.5 Million EURO.
Under IPA II: it is foreseen a total investment of 15.6 Million EURO; this will entail rehabilitation and extension of the sewerage network in the Municipality of Kichevo and an add-on to the WWTP, currently under construction, to cater for additional 16,000 PE.
The objectives of the IPA I and IPA II projects is that wastewater collected in the Municipality of Kichevo is treated according to the standard set by the EU Urban Waste-Water Treatment Directive.
