Cultural stories: Life and literary work of Nikos Kazantzakis
On 16 May, as a part of the Cultural Stories programme in cooperation with the Liaison Office of the Hellenic Republic in Skopje and French Institute Skopje, a lecture on the topic ”Life and literary work of Nikos Kazantzakis” was organised on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the death of famous Greek writer.
Georges STASSINAKIS, President of the association “Friends of Kazantzakis”, Greek Ambassador Haris LALAKOS and Isabelle MARCHI-BARBAUX, Head of the French Institute spoke about the Kazantzakis work and especially his metaphysic queries as well as the connection with Skopje of one of the Kazantzakis literary protagonists Alexis Zorbas.
Nikos Kazantzakis was a Greek writer, celebrated for his novels which include Zorba the Greek (published 1946 as Life and Times of Alexis Zorbas), Christ Recrucified (1948), Captain Michalis (1950, translated 'Freedom or Death), and The Last Temptation of Christ (1955). He also wrote plays, travel books, memoirs and philosophical essays such as The Saviors of God: Spiritual Exercises.
