As a result of the prioritization done within an EU funded study in Prilep, the total length of the sewerage network that shall be rehabilitated and/or extended is around 67 km. The unserved population amounts to about 15,000 inhabitants and is predominantly located in the un-sewered districts of the town (e.g. Trizla) or in the peripheral areas of the town.
A length of 23 km priority investments in sewerage system were included in the investment project under Phase I. The remaining 44 km of sewerage network in Prilep are in the scope of this project. These pipelines will ensure coverage of at least 95% of the population in Prilep, practically excluding only some areas where construction is not feasible. Approximately 2450 new connection are envisaged and the new network will include collecting the wastewater from the south-west industrial area. Another objective of the project will be the separation of the wastewater and storm water system and will provide better conditions for work of the waste water treatment plant as most of the storm water will be diverted from foul to storm network. The waste water of Prilep is currently discharged untreated into Prilepska River approximately 2 km southwest of the town. After the completion of this project and the construction of the waste water treatment plant, all the waste water collected will be treated before discharge according to the EU Urban Waste Water treatment Directive.
